While the nation was mourning the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Trump nominated someone to replace her. With her elegance and brilliant mind, anyone else named by Trump would seem like a placeholder, given his inability to attract the best and the brightest. Nonetheless, in a celebration of disrespect, Trumpians held a party in the Rose Garden for nominee Amy Conley Barrett. The usual Republican suspects were there, hugging and chatting, with no masks to protect themselves or others.
We know that Trump does not like people wearing masks — he challenged a reporter at a news conference for acting responsibly. Later, at the Debate, he ridiculed Joe Biden for wearing a mask, social distancing, and respecting science. That said, one should not have been surprised that guests at the Rose Garden event for the judge would reflect his irresponsible behavior.
What was most shocking? Judge “Poor Judgement” Amy was not wearing a mask. And then, there were her children, all seven of them, at the Rose Garden Super-spreader with no masks.
This is the woman who flaunts being pro-life. And yet, like so many other hypocrites, she wants protection for a handful of cells in the womb. At approximately 5 weeks, during which time 91 percent of pregnancy terminations take place, these cells are without a brain or heartbeat.
This is the woman who will willingly strike down Roe v. Wade as the protector of life.
Have we heard her speak out in favor of releasing children put in cages by the Trump Regime? I haven’t.
Have we heard her decry the fact that there are over 200,000 Americans who are dead because of Trump’s irresponsibility? If she did, I missed it.
Today, I welcomed a Tweet by Jesuit Father James Martin — quoting a physician from Walter Reed Hospital. It is there that Trump is supposedly recovering from Covid. But in a brazen display of narcissism, he took a drive to wave to his cult followers this weekend.
@DrPhillipsMD “Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential ‘drive-by’ just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. They might get sick. They may die. For political theater. Commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk for theater. This is insanity.”
I am sorry to see so many Republican develop this illness, but it does seem like Karma is having a field day. Or as my Italian grandmother often said, “You reap what you sow.”
How sad I am for the families and friends of nearly 210,000 who have succumbed to this terrible illness. And why? Because a group of self-centered politicians were disrespectful of science, of physicians, and life.
