While the beer party at the White House was taking place to smooth out the possibility of tenuous race relations, the woman who made the 911 call was in Cambridge at her job today. Lucia Whalen, a good neighbor, did what a neighbor should be doing. But she may have learned that “no good deed goes unpunished.”
While I generally say that it up to a woman to keep the peace — in this case — she tried and created a furor that resulted in the arrest of a Harvard professor. (For the full story see “Kiss and Make up” Day at the White House.)
But what she has shown us all is her common sense — more so perhaps than a policeman, a professor, and even a President.
