For London’s Biggest Conversation – LBC Radio 97.3 – it was great fun being a guest on Richard Arnold’s Saturday Night Live as a Relationship expert (Yale Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry) and a regular Relationship Columnist for the Providence Journal. The topic was Britney Spears upcoming — maybe — third marriage. I did point out that the article I had sent in advance for the latest news on Britney Spears was from Examiner.com. Richard Arnold as an interviewer is sheer delight.
I am sharing this with you because we are doing so much reporting here on the royals that it was interesting change, an American commenting about Tinseltown on London radio. And yes, I did make a point about “Gratitude.”
The news about Britney Spear’s third possible marriage
“Yes, three is the charm.”
“There is some wisdom in marrying your agent.”
And “Yes, this looks serious.”
Tinseltown marriages and divorce
Since the question is always “Can celebrity marriages survive” it was an opportunity to talk about marriage stability news. The fact is that celebrity marriages do work! (See link “Britney Spears, looking for love, hints marriage then denies it.”
Infidelity is LOW in this country
With reference to Tinseltown marriages that do seem to fall victim to infidelity, I pointed out those that are stable and noted the low infidelity rates in this country. Despite the headline infidelity stories infidelity rates are less than 20 percent based on National Science Foundation funded surveys over 20 years and recent work of Dr. W. Bradford Wilcox, the Marriage and Family Project.
Gratitude advice for Britney Spears to make a marriage work
Based on the work of Dr. Robert Emmons, University of California, Davis, my suggestion:
Day One: Express Gratitude/ Be grateful for 5 qualities that you love about your man and focus on them.
Day Two: Be Forgiving / Name 3 things that you do that make you angry about yourself and your man and forgive!
Day Three: Show Appreciation/ For an entire day speak only kind words
Richard Arnold gasped “For an entire day!” And I had to admit the truth – even I find it difficult to practice what I preach.
This was the show line-up
