Why do we have self-absorbed celebrities singing the national anthem rather than men and women in uniform who are living out the military challenge? Have a look at the TMZ dress rehearsal of Ms. Aguilera – she did not bother to finish the words despite the reverence of at least one onlooker. Men and women in uniform
The words may have been written ages ago, but to this day men and women are still serving our country. Perhaps it is time to ban self-absorbed celebrities from using events such as the Super Bowl to showcase their screaming power and theatrics with our national anthem. If anyone should be given the honor of singing the “Star Spangled Banner” it should be a man or woman from a unit still fighting for freedom. Or a veteran who has already served his or her country.
And if we insist on celebrities, than only Billy Ray Cyrus and those who spend time with our troops deserve the honor.
For against is not the issue
Whether we oppose war or not we must acknowledge that men and women in our military are in other nations while we are here at home. Maybe these men and women don’t see “bombs bursting in air” but what they do not see is devastating and dangerous – land mines.
Aguilera may have apologized, but her only excuse is that she was more interested in the show than in the meaning of the words which still bring tears to many of the players themselves.

In the world of love and marriage – as we all write about Valentine’s Day approaching – let’s keep in mind the couples who will not be getting a chance to hug, kiss, and celebrate the day in each other’s arms.
