Love Daily: Dare to delight instead of fight, Nov. 18, 2010

Posted on November 18, 2010 by Rita Watson

Here is one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Leo Buscaglia, author of  LOVE, a book that delighted him.

Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself.  Leo Buscaglia

Sometimes in relationships we forget to express love because we are angry and ready for a fight.   Have you ever tried positive reinforcement?   The next time you are ready for fighting words to spew from your lips, how about a love thought instead?
Time and time again we ask questions such as:

  • “How many times do I have to tell?”
  • “I hate it when you. . .”

New research tells us that arguing styles can predict divorce. Do You Fight Like A Couple Headed For Divorce? –
Keep in mind this wonderful quote:

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
Leo Buscaglia

If you are someone who just can’t let something go when you are angry, how about trying a new technique such as buying a little gift and leaving a little note instead?  Perhaps:
“I love you and your wonderful qualities.  But it would make me so happy if you could remember to:

  • Pick up towels
  • Call when you are going to be late
  • Do the chores you promised

In the words of one researcher: “If you can train a seal, you can train a husband.”  And there are only positive messages here including thoughts from Dr. Scott Haltzman  At last, here’s how to train your husband
