Oh, how we miss you, RBG. In our heart of hearts, we all know what we should be doing to bring harmony into our own lives and the lives of those around us. But with the recent decision by the Supreme Court to deny the rights of women across America, can we forgive? Do we find ourselves cheering that these justices are being harassed?
Here is the dilemma — we know about love and forgiveness. But we are outraged that Roe v Wade has been overturned. Is anger going to carry into our personal lives? In some way, will it rub off on those we love who may not be meeting our expectations?
- Speak kindly to everyone you meet. We all carry a heavy burden.
- Wish blessings to others, even those who hurt you.
- Be forgiving of everyone who has ever hurt you.
- Be forgiving of yourself instead of saying “Why didn’t I?”
- Express your love to those whom you really love, instead of thinking: “They know I love them”
- Remind yourself often throughout the day that those you love are a gift and you have no idea just how long they will be yours to cherish.
- Let go of anger — even if you are contemplating making a Voodoo Doll.
As Massachusetts poet, philosopher, and lecturer Ralph Waldo Emerson has said: “You cannot do a kindness too soon, because you never know how soon it will be too late.”
That said — if you are angry about the tragic turn of events in our country — take your frustration to the ballot box. Vote out every legislator who is restricting the rights of women, children, and parents.
