If you think you are too busy to become involved in politics, take a look at the video clips of Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Josh Hawley questioning the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson. Their badgering tactics should make any woman’s blood pressure rise. Ted Cruz bordered on being abusive.
We need more women in politics. The process is slow. Just look at the arduous journey of the Equal Rights Amendment. Although the ERA was passed by Congress in 1972, it was sent to the states to ratify within a seven year period. It fell short by three states of the 38 states required.
The ERA eventually ran out of time for ratification. Nonetheless women continued working and, in the absence of the ERA, the pay gap remained. When you consider that some 30 years ago women were earning 64 cents for every dollar that a man earned and look at earnings today—it hasn’t changed much.
With the ERA, there are still some legal issues, due to Trump and his puppet William Barr as defined in “The Equal Rights Has Been Ratified. It Is the Law”: U.S. House Resolution Declares ERA 28th Amendment 1/27/2022 by CARRIE N. BAKER
Imagine 20 plus years simply to agree on the basic fact that women and men deserve equal pay for equal work?
That said, we must be grateful to President Biden for appointing a new Supreme Court justice, one whose integrity and grace stood up to the appalling treatment by Republican senators. Would these men have dared to subject a man to such badgering and disrespect?
We need Equal Rights and Equal Respect!
